Door Hanging

Door Hanging is a particularly difficult task. There is a large list of potential complications to consider when attempting to hang a door. There are a large number of variables that must be made consistent for a door to be hung successfully.

  • The Hinges: are they aligned with the pre-existing spots featured on the frame.

If the hinge sites on the door are in the incorrect position(s) they must be packed or trimmed and new hinge sites must be rebated. This is a time consuming process but is very common when hanging a door. There is the additional problem of whether the door and frame match up with respect to how the door opens. If the frame supports a door that left hung and opens inwards then the hinges on the door must accommodation this. If they do not they must be moved and the vacant space they leave behind must be packed. This is work.

  • The Door Lock: does the lock mechanism and covering strike plate align with the mortise.

This is also a common pitfall, but can be corrected. It is easier to rearrange the mortise than relocate the lock mechanism, but this does not mean that it is easy. There is a considerable amount of work in changing this necessary detail. This is work that can and should be avoided, especially if without a professional knowledge of how to do so.

  • The Bottom or Top of the Door: may be too large or too small to fit the supporting frame.

This would require either trimming or extending the to be installed door. For this to be successful the door must usually be cut square. However, if the frame is itself warped and not square itself the door must then be cut to be consistent with the odd form of the housing frame. If the door is but a few millimetres ‘off’ then it is impossible to guarantee a clean finish. It may be too large and so close with difficulty. It may be too small and so allow draughts to move through open gaps. It may be skewed and so put strain on the supporting frame as well as allowing draughts as well as looking peculiar.

There are a large number of considerations that must be made when hanging a door. The list of these considerations is long and the professional experience needed to accommodate them is large. It is much easier and convenient to contract someone with the talent of knowing and doing to do the job for you. This is the exact service that we offer.

Although it may seem costly, we charge a fee of $350.00 for our service. The cost is so because of the amount of work that is usually required. As is evident from the above list, there are a large number of possible complications that can be encountered when hanging a door. In addition to this the work usually requires the effort of two professionals, which we supply. The costing is therefore fair considering the likely job at hand and the professionals needed to complete it as so.

Demolition and Salvaging

We offer the combined service of Demolition and Salvage as an extension of our business. We have an able bodied and experienced team of demolishers that are available to be outsourced for the function of demolition and salvaging.

House Demolition

We are capable of demolishing most if not any spaces, removing any unwanted furnishings or in built features. We are also available for yard clean-ups and remove any unwanted debris. We are also capable at asbestos removal, which we partner with a well experienced and professional removal company who are also a premier within their industry.

Price Guide

These prices are an indication of what can be expected. They have been calculated according to what would be expected for a ‘3 bedroom estate house’. The price is decided according to the size of the space in which the demolition is needed and where the demolition is to occur.

  • $6,500 + GST: House measuring an average 100 square metres, located within the Wellington CBD. This cost includes removal.
  • $8,000 + GST: House measuring an average greater than 150 square metres, located within the Wellington CBD. This cost includes removal.
  • $4,000 + GST: This is the cost for demolition without removal.

The costs depending on a number of variables and are therefore decided before the onset of the job, with all considerations being met. The cost increases the further we are made to travel from our own base, as is to be expected.

Salvaging

In addition to demolition we offer the added service of salvaging. We extend our service to:

  • Flooring: Tongue and Groove, Matai and Rimu.
  • Solid Doors: This includes French Doors, Ranch Sliders, and other recognisable styles and types of wood.
  • Brass Hardware.
  • Native Timber: We accept beams, joists, sheets–Rimu and Kauri, Matai and Jarrah.

All of these materials can be salvaged and restored. We are in the business of lending a lease, a new life, to recycled materials. There are two possible approaches. We can either purchase the materials from you directly or we can discount it from the total demolition cost, as a form of credit. This is a great convenience. We will be paying you. In which other industry is such an arrangement possible. We are in the business of offering benefits to our customers, because if we intend to make our customers happy now, we will better secure the ability to do so in the future.
