Window Reglazing & Sash Repair

Window Reglazing, Sash Repair, Broken Windows, Repair, Window Restoration, No. 8 Building Recyclers, Wellington

Windows come in all possible sizes, this is what makes them notoriously difficult to select. Although there is no standard size for a window, we have an extensive stock available which contains almost all possible measurements. At No. 8 Building Recyclers, we offer the chance to avoid the usual disappointment that window repair usually results in: leaving empty handed.

Window Reglazing & Sash Repair

The current project required time and detail. The sash itself was split along its length, requiring the sash to be clamped. In addition to an adhesive, the pressure from the clamps resets the wood as a whole and repairs the split. The window was then freed from the clamp and the putty was removed in order to begin the reglazing process. A cut to size single pane of clear light glass was ordered from a local manufacturer, the glass was then fitted and stapled in place then puttied secure. The process of applying putty is important, as the cause of most rot damage can be attributed to wrongly applied putty. Putty is a sealant that ensures that the beading surrounded the glass is kept water tight. This is a necessary measure to protect against potential water rot. If water is allowed to pool then rot will develop. To be successful putty must be applied so that it forms an inclined edge (a bevel). This angle ensures that water runs off and does not have a chance to pool.

There is little that we cannot modify. We can extend height, width and we can trim the exact same. We offer a variety of services intent on meeting any specific requirements or visions. A door, as selected from our stock, may seem unsatisfactory when considering its dimensions or how it is hung. It is also possible that a single detail may prove unsatisfactory–perhaps a panel present instead of light letting glass. This can all be accommodated for; hinges can be swapped, any rebated sites can be packed and unwanted panels can be removed and replaced with glass, for which we offer a catalogue of different templates.

We are also in the market of purchasing doors and other recyclables we consider appropriate for restoration. We invite anyone in the possession of such sought after materials and furnishings to contact us. We source from auctions; salvage from demolitions; purchase from home renovation sites, spring-cleaners and remodellers.
