Cedar French Door Frame Build

Cedar French Doors tucked in a custom frame.

Frame building is a common project for our workshop and a Cedar French Door Frame Build has become somewhat of a theme. It is an extremely convenient service that we offer. Although it may seem easy to consider, building a frame unique to an existing space and specific to a chosen door size is a little more difficult than expected. This is not to mention the hassle of sourcing frame grade timber. At No. 8 Building Recyclers we use industry grade H3 treated pine to assemble frames that are custom to the measurements of the door they enclose. As Cedar is a durable wood and is particularly resistant to possible weathering, it is an ideal wood for exterior settings and is therefore ideal for the French Door style, which is usually exposed to the conditions.

The current project was a breeze. As mentioned, this is a project that we are very much familiar with, it being a regular request on most accepted job sheets. The Cedar French Doors were selected from our store room stock and were (fortunately) of the right measurement for our customers intended site. In the somewhat common event that the measurements do not satisfy we can complete modifications that meet the target measurements provided; these primarily involve either extensions or selective trimmings. In addition to picking directly from our available stock, we also invite customers to bring their own doors in to be hung in a frame which we assemble in our workshop.

The Cedar French Door Set was measured and H3 treated pine was cut to size and assembled as a frame. Some tinkering was required to accommodate the doors, nothing that a chisel and hammer combination could not fix. New stainless steel hinges were used to hang the set within the completed frame. No new rebates were necessary, pre-existing hinge sites were accurate.

All ready for dispatch.

There is little that we cannot modify; we can extend both height and width and we can trim the exact same. We offer a variety of services intent on meeting any specific requirements or visions. A door, as selected from our stock, may seem unsatisfactory when considering its dimensions or how it is hung. It is also possible that a single detail may prove unsatisfactory–perhaps a panel present instead of light letting glass. This can all be accommodated for. Hinges can be swapped, any rebated sites can be packed, and unwanted panels can be removed and replaced with glass, for which we offer a catalogue of different templates.

We are also in the market of purchasing doors and other recyclables we consider appropriate for restoration. We invite anyone in the possession of such sought after materials and furnishings to contact us. We source from auctions; salvage from demolitions; purchase from home renovation sites, spring-cleaners and remodellers.
